"The Philadelphia Eleven" Screening

July 15, 2024

Join St. James in Alexandria to commemorate the 50th anniversary of women's ordination in the Episcopal Church with a screening of the feature length film "The Philadelphia Eleven" amidst the glow of St. James beautiful stained glass with a catered reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

In an act akin to civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organize their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomes them, but change is no small task. The women are harassed, threatened and banned from stepping on church property.

In this feature-length documentary film, meet the women who challenge the very essence of patriarchy within Christendom and succeed in building a movement that transforms an age-old institution.

This will be hosted Saturday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.
